When an automotive battery comes out of its first life usage in an electric vehicle, it can still have 70% or more of its useful capacity remaining. These batteries must be either stored, recycled or can be redeployed in second life energy storage.
Nuvation Energy has successfully field deployed many second life energy storage systems. This webinar will present lessons learned from real world design and architecture tradeoffs. This webinar will include comparing pack disassembly to build module based second life systems versus reusing packs in their automotive form factor. In both approaches, we will present case studies that convert automotive standards to Sunspec storage models required for stationary energy storage systems.
Speaker: Steve Miller, Principal Design Engineer, Nuvation Energy
Steve Miller manages Nuvation Energy’s BMS Firmware team, a group that develops the safety critical BMS software for small- and large-scale energy storage applications. His experience has been applied to multiple customer sites, integrating and configuring Nuvation’s BMS into multiple energy storage systems including several second life battery systems. He has over 25 years of experience developing reliable firmware for many systems in the fields of energy storage, aerospace and communications.
