This DOE Solar Energy Technologies Office project is developing a proactive intrusion detection and mitigation system (PIDMS) sensor to protect distributed energy resource (DER) systems; specifically, this work focuses on photovoltaic inverter communications. The PIDMS sensor is designed to process both cyber and physical data using machine learning algorithms, including logs captured by network IDS tools such as Zeek and Snort and physical data points queried directly from the inverter. The design of the PIDMS and performance against different cyber-physical disturbances from testing in a high-fidelity emulation environment will be presented in this talk.
Speaker: Dr. Shamina Hossain-McKenzie, Cybersecurity Researcher at Sandia National Laboratories
