SUNSPEC KEY INITIATIVES
ACCELERATING DER TECHNOLOGY
SunSpec’s key initiatives share the common goal of accelerating the growth of the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) industry. Spanning from SunSpec Modbus to DER Cybersecurity and a V2G Charging Profile for IEEE 2030.5, SunSpec works with industry leaders to develop standards in all areas of DER technology.
AUTOMATING IEEE 1547.1-2020 TESTING USING SUNSPEC MODBUS
The goal of the SunSpec 1547 initiative is to reduce UL 1741 SB testing by at least 50% by automating IEEE 1547.1-2020 testing and SunSpec Modbus for IEEE 1547-2018 Certification testing.
A CLEAR PATH TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE IEEE 1547-2018 COMMUNICATIONS MANDATE
SunSpec Modbus defines common parameters and settings for monitoring and controlling DERs and their capabilities, such as voltage regulation, setting power factor, and power export limiting. It also structures data to increase interoperability. Leveraging the Modbus1 protocol, widely adopted for industrial electronic devices since the 1980s, SunSpec Alliance created the SunSpec Modbus interface in 2009 and has continually extended it to cover all solar inverters and many other commercially available DERs.
PAVING THE WAY FOR DER CYBERSECURITY
The SunSpec Alliance is committed to paving the way for a secure distributed energy infrastructure by creating opportunities for education, collaboration, and standards development for DER Cybersecurity. Participate in work groups, attend webinars, and access exclusive video content here.
AN OPEN STANDARD FOR NEC 2017 RAPID SHUTDOWN COMMUNICATION
The safest, most effective way to ensure Rapid Shutdown (as part of NEC 2017) compliance is to utilize standardized, certified solutions. The SunSpec Alliance is the standards body that enables the global energy industry and is the trusted source for certification of Rapid Shutdown-compliant solutions.
