IEEE 2030.5 V2G AC PROFILE

In June, 2022, the SunSpec IEEE 2030.5 / SAE J3072 EV Charging Profile Work Group promoted its IEEE 2030.5 / V2G AC Profile from DRAFT to TEST. Please download the document, implement the profile, and submit your comments. 

By enabling bi-directional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) communication, this profile serves to assist EVSE and PEV manufacturers, operators, and system integrators to implement the SAE J3072 requirements using the IEEE 2030.5 protocol.

Sunspec Modbus

SunSpec Modbus is SunSpec’s foundational technology and a requirement specified in the IEEE 1547 standard. Here you will find information and tools to enable development of IEEE 1547 and CA Rule 21 communication interfaces to DER equipment.

DER DEVICE CYBERSECURITY

The IEEE 1547-2018 standard requires that Distributed Energy Resources (DER) must communicate over public- and private networks using Internet protocols. When considering DER deployment risk, cybersecurity considerations rise to the top of the list. SunSpec Cybersecurity standards set the baseline for device cybersecurity protection and should be considered fundamental for DER manufacturers. These standards are harmonized with and complimentary to IEC 62443-4-2, UL 2941, IEEE 1547.3, and state standards such as those proposed in California.

SUNSPEC RAPID SHUTDOWN

The SunSpec Certified program for Rapid Shutdown verifies compliance to the SunSpec Communication Signal for Rapid Shutdown Functional Specification to meet the requirement established by National Electrical Code (NEC) 2017. PV module-level power control and safety (“rapid shutdown”) is required in 24 states starting in January 2019 and will affect millions of PV panels and all solar inverters. This standard is tested using UL1741 SA criteria.

 

SUNSPEC 2030.5/CSIP

California Rule 21 requires that, by default, Distributed Energy Resources within investor owned Utilities (IOUs) must utilize the IEEE 2030.5-2018 networking standard in the manner described in the SunSpec Common Smart Inverter Profile(CSIP). The SunSpec Certified program for 2030.5/CSIP verifies compliance with the IEEE 2030.5-2018 networking standard and SunSpec CSIP.
