SunSpec/Sandia Cybersecurity Workgroup Program Update – SunSpec Alliance

The SunSpec/Sandia Cybersecurity Workgroup, now 350 people strong, has been meeting once or twice per month now for the past two years. During this time, we’ve been executing to a roadmap that addresses several key themes:

  • DER Device and Servers
  • Secure Network Architecture
  • Data-In-Flight Requirements
  • Access Controls
  • Patching Requirements
  • Utility/Aggregator Auditing Procedures

To expand industry knowledge, invited experts have presented on dozens of topics including:

  • Protocol-independent cybersecurity
  • IEEE 1815 (DNP3) system architecture
  • IEEE 2030.5 system architecture
  • IEC 61850 security considerations
  • A comparison of encryption standards for various Distributed Energy Resouce (DER) standards
  • Establishing Public Key Infrastructure for regional or national DER ecosystems
  • Supply chain considerations
  • And many other topics
