SunSpec Accepts Nomination to Manage CSIP Test Procedures
February 20, 2025
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has approved the request of the large investor-owned utilities (IOUs) – PG&E, SCE, and SDG&E – to no longer maintain the Common Smart Inverter Profile (CSIP). However, this approval is conditional upon another organization taking responsibility for updating and maintaining the IEEE 2030.5 CSIP Implementation Guide, a role that will be assumed by IEEE.

This decision reinforces SunSpec Alliance’s role as a critical entity in maintaining testing standards and facilitating industry collaboration on interoperability solutions.
The SunSpec work group will launch simultaneously with the IEEE work group, a webinar will be announced a week prior to provide information and the ability to participate in both communities. The SunSpec workgroup will begin by finalizing workgroup policy and procedures and resolving existing errata.
