GreenGrid Energy Storage Inc.

GreenGrid Energy Storage Inc. is a small Northern California startup company developing shipping-container size battery systems that use low-cost materials such as sea salt (NaCl), iron (Fe) and beta-alumina ceramics. No lithium, no rare earths, and no controversial components. Originally explored in the 1970s–80s as the ZEBRA battery for EVs, this liquid salt technology operates at elevated temperature (200 – 300 C) which is perfectly suited for stationary grid storage where it operates reliably from the hot desert to the Arctic. With a novel cell design and low-cost system architecture, GreenGrid aims to drive the cost of renewable energy storage down to just a few cents per kWh.
