SunSpec Modbus is an open standard that enables interoperability amongst DER system components. Referenced in IEEE 1547-2018, the SunSpec Modbus 701-712 Series DER Information Models are just months away from being promoted from TEST status to APPROVED status, thus superseding the SunSpec Modbus 100 Series Models that were first introduced in 2009. All new SunSpec Modbus inverter implementations that are intended for certification to U.S. requirements should now begin referencing the 701-712 series models.

The approval of the SunSpec Modbus 701-712 Series Models coincides with the timely release of the all new SunSpec System Validation Platform (SVP) Dashboard test software for SunSpec Modbus-enabled energy devices. Referencing the most up to date information models, dictated by the national regulatory standard for system interoperability, SunSpec SVP Dashboard provides unrivaled time savings for product developers, software testers, and independent test labs.

Included in the all new SunSpec Modbus package is the following:

  • SunSpec 700 Series DER Information Model Reference Sheet
  • SunSpec DER Information Model Specification
  • SunSpec Device Information Model Specification

SunSpec Modbus for IEEE 1547 conformance profile has been released. The SunSpec 700 Series DER models are now in TEST status and are set to be APPROVED in the coming months. Now is the time to start your implementation and resolve any outstanding issues. The testing software, SunSpec SVP Dashboard ELITE, that will be used in SunSpec Modbus for IEEE 1547 certification testing will be released in Beta starting in January, with certification being available through our Authorized Test Labs starting Q1 of 2021.
