The SunSpec Alliance has published the IEEE 2030.5 V2G AC Profile 2.0, marking an important milestone in the development of standardized communications for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications.
The publication advances SunSpec’s work to establish a common framework for implementing V2G communications using IEEE 2030.5. By defining a standardized profile for these interactions, the work provides an important foundation for interoperability as electric vehicles become increasingly integrated with distributed energy resources and the electric grid.
Publication of the profile also opens the door to the next phase of work: developing the conformance test procedures needed to verify implementations of the V2G AC Profile.
From Profile Development to Conformance Testing
During the September 24 meeting of the SunSpec IEEE 2030.5 CSIP Test Procedures Work Group, SunSpec Executive Director Dylan Tansy discussed how the V2G profile fits into SunSpec’s broader approach to IEEE 2030.5 testing and interoperability.
With the V2G AC Profile 2.0 now published, work can progress toward developing corresponding test procedures. These procedures will provide a structured means of evaluating implementations against the requirements of the profile and supporting consistent behavior across products and systems.
This work builds on the experience SunSpec and industry participants have gained developing and implementing conformance testing for CSIP. The September 24 meeting provides a useful look at that process, including ongoing work on CSIP Conformance Test Procedures v1.4 and the broader direction of SunSpec’s IEEE 2030.5 testing framework.
The discussion highlights a progression that is central to SunSpec’s standards work: develop the profile, establish clearly defined requirements, and then build the test procedures necessary to demonstrate conformance and interoperability.
