Unlocking a Non-Invasive Dimension for Cybersecurity of DERs

Increased cyber intrusions across the globe have prioritized cybersecurity enhancements for DERs. To this end, one of the prominent underlying cybersecurity design challenges for DERs is that the cybersecurity solutions require critical data and system information simultaneously from network or power grid operators, which is not always easy to obtain from a vendor’s perspective. This becomes a big design problem without any validation mechanism to justify its accuracy under evolving landscape of cyber-attacks. In this webinar, we will highlight new physics-aware, non-invasive cybersecurity technologies for DER networks that provides a unified safeguard capability against multiple cyber-attacks. Not only does it ensure a resource-efficient design perspective but it also easy customization for different DERs.

Subham Sahoo received the B.Tech. & Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from VSSUT, Burla, India and Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, New Delhi, India in 2014 & 2018, respectively. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Energy, Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark, where he is also the vice-leader of the research group on Reliability of Power Electronic Converters (ReliaPEC) in AAU Energy.

He is a recipient of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) Innovative Students Project Award for the best PhD thesis across all the institutes in India for the year 2019. He was also a distinguished reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid in the year 2020. He chairs the cybersecurity working group in the IEEE PELS Technical Committee (TC) 10 on Design Methodologies.

His research interests are control, optimization, stability, and cybersecurity of power electronic systems.
