We recently hosted a webinar to discuss essential updates to the SunSpec Modbus specifications and compliance documents. These updates are designed to enhance clarity, functionality, and compliance across our Modbus implementations. As the industry continues to advance, it’s essential that our standards keep pace. The webinar was designed to present and explain these updates, which include key changes to how SunSpec Modbus models are described, tested, and implemented. The Specification Review Period is now open, allowing members and the broader community to provide feedback on these updates before they are finalized. This review period is crucial for ensuring that the changes are practical, effective, and meet the highest industry standards.

Key Updates Covered:

  • Detailed Descriptions: Clearer explanations added to SunSpec models.

  • Standards Field: New attribute listing required standards for each point.

  • Duplicate Points Resolved: Streamlined workflows by addressing duplicates in Model 702.

  • Expanded Function Codes: Function Code 6 and broadcast mode now mandatory.

  • Improved Conformance Testing: New tests and read time requirements for better interoperability.

  • IEEE 1547 Compliance: A new document covering all necessary tests.
