Dear SunSpec Members and Supporters,
The physical and logical transformation of the U.S. electrical grid, catalyzed by IEEE-2018-compliant smart inverters incorporate into stationary (PV+Storage and EV Charger) and mobile (Electric Vehicle) DER systems is at hand. Bloomberg reports that in 2021 more than $750 billion was invested in an energy transition that relies on this technology and that double-digit growth is predicted for the next two decades.
Will SunSpec member companies be ready for this opportunity? Time will tell.
SunSpec examined regulatory filings issued by U.S. states during the past year and found that more than 30 states will adopt IEEE 1547-2018 by April 2023. This date marks the start of the smart inverter era. Brian Lydic, Chief Regulatory Engineer at the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) reported this week that due to complexity and test lab constraints, vendors that start testing now will deliver their products to market in about 16 to 21 months–approximately March 2024, one year after the market has opened!
How can SunSpec members get into the market first? Automation.
Consistent with SunSpec’s mission to expand the market for smart, distributed, renewable energy, SunSpec provides a platform for IEEE 1547-2018 product development and testing called SunSpec SVP. SunSpec SVP Dashboard is available at no additional cost to SunSpec members and is used in about 600 locations worldwide to facilitate development of smart inverters. Get your free copy now.
How to engage? Talk to us.
If you want to accelerate your testing process, we encourage to to check out SunSpec SVP Plus Pack, an suite of add-ons to SunSpec SVP Dashboard. These tools, available for an additional fee, enable IEEE 1547-2018 functional- and interoperability testing in your facility and exercise the SunSpec Modbus and IEEE 2030.5 interfaces. This software will shave months from your market delivery schedule. Contact membership@sunspec.org to learn more or schedule a demo.
As a reminder, we have announced a “save the date” for the 2022 Annual SunSpec Member Meeting, which will be held on December 7th and 8th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Please add the date to your calendar and stay tuned for more details. It is going to be fun!
As always, do not hesitate to contact Membership@SunSpec.org with questions, concerns, or requests. Now is a more exciting time than ever to join the Alliance and help grow the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) industries!
