Dear *|FNAME|*,
On November 15th, President Biden passed a 1.2 trillion dollar infrastructure bill, signaling an unequivocal win for the renewable energy industry. With roughly $555 billion allocated to climate and clean energy projects, including tax credits for renewables, energy storage, electric vehicles and the transmission grid, we are excitedly anticipating massive growth in many of the sectors that the SunSpec Alliance is actively developing standards for.
Of these initiatives, Electric Vehicles and the development of a robust EV-charging infrastructure is a primary focus. This is the first time that the federal government has funded EV-charging development in the U.S., and with $7.5 billion set aside to accomplish the goal of deploying 500,000 public EV charging ports by 2030, our work in the EV sector is more important now than ever.
Coinciding this milestone political achievement, the SunSpec IEEE 2030.5 / SAE J3072 EV Charging Profile Work Group has planned to release a first draft of the IEEE 2030.5 Implementation Guide for SAE J3072 for early review by the broader Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) by the end of November, with the goal of releasing the document for public comment at the end of 2021.
By enabling bi-directional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) communication, this profile serves to assist EVSE and PEV manufacturers, operators, and system integrators to implement the SAE J3072 requirements using the IEEE 2030.5 protocol. In other words, this profile will play a critical role in deploying a scalable EV charging infrastructure across North America.
SunSpec is committed to furthering the progress set forth by the Biden infrastructure bill by continuing to train and activate a qualified workforce for jobs in cybersecurity, software development, and networking for Distributed Energy Resources. We encourage employers and job seekers alike to attend our Winter Career Fair on December 8th, 2021.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to Member Services at membership@sunspec.org to learn how to get involved in any of the above activities, or to become a member of the SunSpec Alliance.
